EXAMINATIONS

A paper that maps to your outcomes.

ED Prep builds the examination. Your lecturer gives it the course outline and says how many questions, of which types, at which difficulty, against which course learning outcomes. It writes the paper and the rubric. Your lecturer edits, regenerates and publishes it.

Outcome Coverage

Move a question from one outcome to another and watch the totals

WHY THIS EXISTS

The paper is set, then mapped afterwards.

Coverage is checked at the end, by hand, against an outline nobody opened while writing. Whether every outcome was actually assessed is discovered in the week the review asks, which is the worst week to discover it.

FOUR STEPS

Outline in, paper out.

  1. One

    The outline

Upload the course outline. ED Prep reads the course learning outcomes, the programme outcomes they serve, and the assessment strategy, and your lecturer confirms what it found.

  2. Two

    The specification

Say what the paper is: how many questions, split across outcomes, question types and difficulty. The distributions must sum, so a paper cannot quietly under-assess an outcome.

  3. Three

    The review

Every question is your lecturer’s to change. Rewrite one, regenerate a whole section, revert to an earlier version, or reorder. Nothing is fixed until they say so.

  4. Four

    Publish

The paper and its rubric go into the course as a quiz, published by the person answerable for it.

ACCREDITATION

Evidence, as a by-product.

Because the paper is built against course learning outcomes, the mapping exists the moment the paper does. It is not reconstructed in the fortnight before a review. What Rize needs for accreditation reporting is produced by the act of setting the examination.

FOR STUDENTS

Practice, from the same course.

Students get practice papers drawn from their own course rather than from a question bank somebody else wrote. They practise what was taught, against the outcomes they will be examined on.

THE BOUNDARY

It drafts. Your examiners publish.

No paper reaches a student until your lecturer publishes it. The outline is yours, the specification is yours, every question is editable, and the standard the paper is set at is set by the person answerable for it.

THE LIVE DEMONSTRATION

Set a paper yourself.
